Look, I realize this was a really tragic episode for Myka, but…
Can we please
Stop saying
Nothing bad
Happens
To male characters?
This is one of the few sci-fi shows out there where the Important female cast (Myka, Claudia, H.G., Mrs. Frederic, Leena/Abigail, Jane) outnumbers the Important male cast (Artie, Pete, Steve, Valda), so obviously more stuff is going to happen to the female characters because there’s more female characters for it to happen to. Yeah, Pete has in the history of the show gotten off lightly, but can we stop pretending it’s because he’s male and admit it’s because he hasn’t had a massive plotline devoted to him? (I’m not trying to claim Pete’s been given a disservice, I just mean as far as large, arching plots he hasn’t had one that focussed on him, unlike the others)
I’m not saying TV as a whole doesn’t have a tendency to treat women unfairly, but it’s ridiculous for people to demonize a show and writers who have created something that’s one of the best examples of gender equality in television currently on the market (and frankly I’m getting a little tired of it)
